AWARDS CEREMONY FOR THE 4TH EDITION OF THE METROPOLIS AWARDS

The fourth awards ceremony for the Metropolis Awards was held on 25 November last at the gala dinner hosted by the President of Metropolis, Jean-Paul Huchon, within the framework of the 10th Metropolis World Congress in Porto Alegre. The event, attended by more than 200 representatives from all over the world, was hosted by Tulio Milman, a renowned journalist in Brazil, and Hilmar Von Lojewski, representing the city of Berlin, first prize-winner in the previous edition of the awards.

The winners of this year’s edition are as follows:

1st Prize: BAMAKO for the project “Collaboration to shore up the fight against malaria in the district of Bamako”

2nd Prize: TAIPEI for the project “Total Recycling and Zero Landfill”

3rd Prize: ADDIS ABABA for the project “Micro and Small Enterprise Development Program”

Special Mention: BELO HORIZONTE for the project “Environmental Recovery Program (DRENURBS)”. (The city of Belo Horizonte was awarded 3rd prize in 2008)

Special Mention: SEOUL for the project “Women Friendly City Project”

Special Mention: DIYARBAKIR for the project “Sümerpark New Life Centre”

The event, which devoted a space to the presentation of certificates to the highest representatives of the candidate cities, came to a close with a group photograph and words of acknowledgement and congratulations to all the participants extended by the President of Metropolis, Jean-Paul Huchon.
