On 8 October last, the Metropolis Board of Directors approved the composition of the jury that is to assess the entries for the 4thedition of the Metropolis Award; an edition that brings together a total of 43 projects from 27 cities, the highest number of entries of all the editions held to date.

The jury of the current edition is made up of the cities of Berlin, as first prize winner in the previous edition; Porto Alegre, as host city of the Congress; Abidjan, Montreal and São Paulo. Each of the jury members, appointed by their respective cities, has already been given all the projects in order to review and assess them according to the criteria set forth by the Award conditions. The jury will meet on 24 and 25 January in Paris to pool their assessments, to deliberate and to rate the finalist projects.

The Metropolis Award is granted to the association’s member cities in acknowledgement of having carried out initiatives worthy of international recognition on account of their contribution to improving citizens’ quality of life in areas such as urban development, the environment, housing, public transport, safety and economic, social and cultural development. The high number of entries in this year’s edition is indicative of the level of commitment undertaken by cities to establish a better future in the world’s big cities.

The President of Metropolis and the city that garnered first prize in the previous edition will be responsible for presenting the trophies during the gala dinner hosted by the President within the framework of the 10thMetropolis Congress.
